Uzhhorod National University was founded on 18 October 1945. It is one of the classical, certified and level IV approved universities by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. The university has 19 faculties, 2 educational and research institutes, Department of Military Training, Natural Sciences and Humanities College, which trains specialists in related specialities of the university.
Uzhgorod National University is among the best higher education institutions of Ukraine in terms of educational, scientific, international, innovative and informational activities. Moreover, the university is ranked in 12th position in Webometrics Ranking of World’s Universities as of 2025. In Ukraine it is among the 17 best universities and according to the consolidated rating for 2024 from the national educational information resource Osvita.ua, Uzhhorod National University took 11th place among more than 200 domestic universities.
Uzhgorod National University has 1198 academic staff including 185 doctors of sciences, professors and 693 candidates of sciences, doctors of philosophy. UzhNU offers full-time and part-time study, and specialists are trained at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. At the end of 2024, 11,722 full-time students and 3,374 part-time and evening students were enrolled at Uzhhorod National University and College of Natural Sciences and Humanities.

Enrollment in Degree
Accepted students must present original documents, pay tuition fees, complete registration, and obtain a student ID card. The International Office assists with visa, residence permit, orientation, and hostel arrangements.
Tuition varies depending on the program and medium of instruction. For Medicine in English medium, the annual tuition is higher compared to Ukrainian-medium. International students must pay the full tuition fee for the first academic year in advance. Additional costs include hostel accommodation, health insurance, and daily living expenses, which remain affordable compared to Western Europe.
The university offers limited scholarships. Most international students are self-financed. Outstanding students may qualify for academic awards, and there are opportunities for mobility programs through Erasmus+ and international cooperation.
