Luhansk State Medical University
Luhansk State Medical University was founded in 1956 as Voroshilovgrad Medical Institute of the Ministry of Health of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1971 it expanded its academic structure by establishing a PhD Defense Council and later on in 1973 it opened a Preparatory Department for working youth by launching the Faculty of Postgraduate Education and its newspaper “Aesculapius” in 1979. As years passed it further expanded its education structure by opening new facilities for foreign students and Pediatrics in 1983. During the years from 1989 to 1990 it also established new departments including medical physics, computer sciences, immunology and genetics along with a specialized council for Internal Medicine. In 1993 it created one of Ukraine’s first and largest Medical and Biological Lyceum schools for rural youth.
Today, LSMU is a top ranked, well equipped, advanced and cultural medical university in the Lugansk region. It is accredited at the highest level by offering Premedical, Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs through its four faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry and Postgraduate Studies. Furthermore, the Premedical program helps students to understand basic science, the Undergraduate program offers General Medicine, Pediatrics, Stomatology and Pharmacy while the Postgraduate program includes internships, clinical fellowships and PhD studies. LSMU follows a credit based system by which lectures, practical sessions, labs and seminars are provided to students in a structured way to maintain quality medical education.

Visa Application
- After receiving the invitation letter, applicants must apply for a student visa at the Embassy of Ukraine.
Documents Required for Admission
Foreign students must submit a written Application Form along with:
- Original and Copy of Previous Educational Qualification Document
- Original and Copy of Transcript / Supplement to Previous Educational Document (if available)
- Academic Transcript (for transfer or resuming studies from 2nd year)
- Original and Copy of Curriculum Details (credits, duration, academic records) – required for postgraduate admission if not included in transcript
- Copy of Passport or ID (for individuals without citizenship)
- Medical Insurance (as per Ukrainian legislation)
- 8 Passport-Sized Photographs (35x45 mm)
- Copy of Certificate of Foreign Ukrainian (if applicable)
Translation & Legalization of Documents
- Documents from points 1–5 must be translated into Ukrainian with a notarized or consular-certified translation.
- Documents from points 1–4 must be certified and legalized in their country of issue, unless exempted by international agreements with Ukraine.
Payment and Legal Agreements
- Payment for education is made according to agreements/contracts by individuals or legal entities.
- For underage students, contracts must be signed by parents or legal guardians.
Recognition of Foreign Educational Documents
- Foreign educational documents are recognized in Ukraine by law.
- Based on the recognition results, the university decides whether the student can continue at the corresponding academic level or will be deducted (withdrawn).
- If the Ministry of Education and Science or the university refuses recognition, the student will be removed from enrollment.
Tuition fees at LSMU are reasonable and affordable:
General Medicine
The tuition fee is around $4000 to $4500 per year.
Dentistry
The tuition fee is $3500 to $4000 per year.
Pharmacy
The tuition fee is $3000 per year.
Other Expenses
Accommodation in university hostels costs between $700 to $1000 annually. Additional expenses include food, transport, medical insurance, and textbooks.
