Samarkand State Medical University
Samarkand State Medical University (SamMU) was founded in 1930 as the State Uzbek Medical Institute (GUZMI) in Samarkand by the Resolution of the Council of People’s Commissars. This university has a proud and rich history as an independent medical higher education institution in Central Asia. In 1997 after Uzbekistan became an independent country the university rapidly expanded. In 2020 university opened new facilities such as Higher Nursing, Medical Pedagogy, Dentistry, Preventive Medicine, Medical Biology, Pharmacy and Traditional Medicine. During COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 the university quickly adopted online education. With this advancement this university ensures to provide uninterrupted education and distance learning.
SamMU also strengthened its international cooperation by establishing partnerships with several foreign universities which include Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and South Korea. Furthermore, from 2020 to 2021 this university accepts students from India and other countries by offering double degree and joint training. In December 2021 university made new reforms for academic and financial independence. This status was granted on January 1, 2022 and by this status university is allowed to set tuition fees, hire international faculty, introduce new programs and also manage its internal regulations independently.
In April 2022, a Presidential Resolution officially transformed the Samarkand State Medical institute into a modern Samarkand State Medical University. The main purpose is to provide quality education according to international standards. Moreover, SamMU aims to integrate education, research, simulation and healthcare through the University 3.0 model. Plans are also initiated to create specialized research and medical centers which include Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Institute, children’s surgical clinics, and centers for microbiology, immunology, and neuroscience. With this prestige and strong potential SamMU attracts thousands of students from worldwide to start their journey as a professional doctor.

Admission Rules for SSMU
Foreign students are admitted to Samarkand State Medical University (SSMU) through an interview (oral examination) in the following subjects:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- English or Russian language (depending on the chosen language of instruction)
Documents Required for the Interview
To participate in the admission interview, applicants must submit:
- Application to the Rector of SSMU, mentioning the chosen program, language, and form of study.
- Contact details, including home address, email, and phone number.
- Original and copy of certificate/diploma showing subjects studied and grades received, with a notarized translation into Russian or Uzbek.
- National and foreign passport with copies. (If you have a residence permit, include its copy as well.)
- 6 passport-size photos (3.5 x 4.5 cm).

Dentistry and Other Programs
