Bukhara State Medical Institute
Bukhara State Medical Institute was established in October 1990 and named after Abu Ali Ibn Sino in March 1991 by decision of the Bukhara Regional Council of People’s Deputies. The Faculty of Medicine was launched in 1991, Faculty of Dentistry in 1992. In 1999 this institute opened the Department of Highly Qualified Nurses and in 2001 Department of Medical Pedagogy was introduced. Furthermore, this institute created the Department of Pediatrics in 2016, as years passed in 2018 new fields were added in Medical Prevention and Medical Biology as commitment of providing quality medical education and research.
Today, this institute has 4 faculties, 53 departments and offers 9 bachelor’s programs, 30 master’s specialties and 36 clinical residency programs. Furthermore, it also runs 20 joint double degree programs at various academic levels. The BSMI has more than 9180 students and residents are enrolled in which 3300 students are from different countries.
BSMI has qualified staff which includes 648 professors and lecturers; among them there are 97 Doctors of Science and Professors, 253 PhD and Associate Professors and 100 Senior Lectures and Assistants to provide high quality and experienced education to students.

Admission Rules for Foreign Students at BSMI
Foreign applicants are admitted to BSMI based on an oral interview (entrance exam) in the following subjects:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Language of Instruction (English or Russian)
Documents Required for the Interview
To participate in the interview, you need to submit:
- Application to the Rector of BSMI, mentioning the chosen program, language, and form of study.
- Contact information, including your home address, email, and phone numbers.
- Original and copy of your certificate or diploma, showing studied subjects and grades, with a notarized translation into Russian or Uzbek.
- National and foreign passport copies (if you have a residence permit, include a copy of that too).
- Six (6) passport-size photos (3.5 × 4.5 cm).

Tuition fees vary depending on the faculty and program:
General Medicine
The tuition fee is around $3500 to $4000 per year.
Dentistry and Pharmacy
The tuition fee is $3500 to $4200 per year.
Nursing, Pediatrics, Traditional Medicine
The tuition fee is between $3000 to $3500 per year.
Master’s and PhD Programs
The tuition fee is approximately $3000 to $3500 per year.
